Brian Bloom is a co-founder of Bloom Burton & Co. and serves as the firm’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. By forging unique relationships with international healthcare-specialized investors, Brian raises capital for Canadian healthcare companies while helping investors realize returns.
Brian is a member of the Life Sciences Advisory Board at the National Research Council of Canada and also serves on the Board of Directors at BIOTECanada, the Baycrest Foundation. Brian is also the Chairman of the Board of Triumvira Immunologics, Appili Therapeutics and Grey Wolf Animal Health, and on the Board of Directors of Qing Bile Therapeutics.
Before co-founding Bloom Burton in 2008, Brian spent six years at Dundee Securities in the healthcare and biotechnology institutional sales and equity research groups. Brian started his career at New York-based investment banking firms SCO Financial Group and Molecular Securities. Brian received an Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University and subsequently studied at the Mount Sinai Graduate School for Biological Sciences of New York University, with a focus in molecular endocrinology and biophysics.
Evelyn Pau, PhD
Associate, Bloom Burton & Co.
Evelyn Pau is an Associate at Bloom Burton & Co., and joined as an Analyst in October 2012. At Bloom Burton, Evelyn’s responsibilities include monetization planning, strategy consulting, and scientific, clinical and medical due diligence for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare companies. Her area of focus is in academic commercialization and preclinical stage biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining Bloom Burton, Evelyn gained business development, due diligence, and strategy consulting experience in biotechnology and healthcare. As a business development analyst at Tornado Medical Systems (now Tornado Spectral Systems), Evelyn performed commercial and intellectual property due diligence in the medical devices market for the early-stage medical imaging and spectroscopy company. At SECOR Consulting (now KPMG), Evelyn was a research fellow for a strategic planning project for a healthcare government agency.
Evelyn completed her PhD in Immunology at the University of Toronto, specializing in genetics and autoimmunity, and her Bachelor of Medical Sciences Honours in Microbiology and Immunology at Western University. Currently, Evelyn serves on the Board of Directors of the McMaster Innovation Park.
James Rowland, MSc
Associate, Investment Banking, Bloom Burton & Co.
James is an Associate on the investment banking team and joined Bloom Burton & Co. as an investment banking analyst in November 2012. Prior to joining Bloom Burton, James held various positions at the TD Bank Group, most recently, as a trading risk analyst in global fixed income and FX valuation control for TD Securities. James’ earlier experience included roles in the TD securities liquidity risk management group and within the enterprise risk management group supporting the Risk Committee of TD’s Board of Directors.
James holds an M.Sc. in Medical Science with a Specialization in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto and an honours B.Sc. in Life Sciences from Queen’s University.
Antonia Borovina, PhD
Associate, Equity Research, Bloom Burton & Co.
Antonia Borovina is an Associate in equity research since March 2016 where she researches publicly traded healthcare companies. Antonia has been with Bloom Burton & Co. since February 2014 and was previously an Associate on the investment banking team. Prior to joining Bloom Burton, Antonia gained business development experience while working for GeneYouIn, a direct-to-consumer genetic testing startup.
Antonia holds a PhD from the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. Her PhD research involved the study of the genetics and cell biology regulating early embryonic development. Antonia also holds a BMSc degree in Biochemistry from Western University.
