Javier Diaz-Mejia is a data scientist with 15+ years of experience leading teams building bioinformatic and machine learning applications addressing problems of relevance for human health. He is a user and developer of computational biology tools for genome-scale analyzes. Javier studied a BSc in Biology and a PhD in Computational Biology at National University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2007, he moved to Canada for his postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto, with Dr. Gabriel Moreno, Dr. Andrew Emili and Dr. Fritz Roth, developing molecular genetics and computational biology methods to identify drug targets. In 2018 he joined the University Health Network as a Scientific Associate with Dr. Trevor Pugh, leading projects related to cancer single cell biology. Javier has been Scientific Advisor of startup companies and co-founder of a non-profit organization providing free soccer and education for children in Toronto.
