Mini-Networking Night 1: MSL/Med Affairs

Our first Mini-Networking Night of the year features Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Medical Affairs professionals from AstraZeneca Canada, Novartis, GSK, McCann Health Medical Communication, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals on October 21st, 2021. Interested in learning more about these career paths? Join us for an exciting networking night where some of the most prominent leaders in the field will talk about their paths to success!
The event will be held virtually through Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided to those registered at a closer date.

Students will be assigned to a Zoom breakout room for the duration of the event. Following Guest Introductions, our professional guests will cycle through 3 predesignated rooms for 25min each for networking. Following the Closing Remarks, any guest or trainee wishing to continue interacting with others is welcome to stay for Open Networking until 8:00PM.
MSL – AstraZeneca/Canada
Adriana is a Colombian Medical Doctor specialized in Human Genetics. During the early period of her MD, she worked as a physician for 5 years in Colombia. Thanks to her interest in research, Adriana started to work in fundamental research in Oncology, focusing on the tumoral metabolism and the variations of the glucose metabolism in response to different stressors. After 2 years of research, Adriana moved to Mexico and started to work in the pharmaceutical industry as a MSL for Diabetes and Metabolism at Johnson&Johnson. Later, she moved over to Shire pharmaceuticals to work as a Project Manager for Lysosomal Storage diseases. Few years after, Adriana moved to Canada where she joined AstraZeneca as a Medical Science Liaison in Oncology where she is currently working and covering the Lung Oncology Portfolio for all the region of Quebec.
MSL – GSK
Robert Ungard is a Medical Science Liaison for vaccines and COVID therapeutics with GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to joining GSK he completed his PhD in Medical Science at McMaster University. His research was focussed on the mechanisms of chronic pain. He has also been fortunate to work with a number of small and mid-size life science companies to move medical research from the lab to the clinic. As a student he was involved with many pursuits including as Editor-in-chief of the student journal Health Science Inquiry, as a strategic consultant with the University Consulting Group, and as a founder of the Medical Science Mentorship Group.
MSL – AstraZeneca/Canada
Alison Dungey is a University of Toronto alumnus from the Institute of Medical Science PhD program, preceded by a Masters degree from Medical Biophysics at Western University in London Ontario, and undergraduate degree from Queen’s University in Life Sciences. She is a MSL for Lung Cancer at AstraZeneca. Prior to joining AstraZeneca, Alison worked as a MSL at Boehringer Ingelheim and Alexion Pharmaceuticals. Forever curious and wanting to partner to help patients and the ones who love them, Alison has worked in the therapeutic areas of Cardiology, Cardio-Met., Oncology, ILD, and ultra-rare metabolic disease. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family outdoors in nature and learning from the cultural arts: visual arts, live music, film, and performing arts.
Medical Advisor – Novartis
Kaitlin Anstett is a Medical Affairs Medical Advisor at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada in the Immunology, Hepatology, Dermatology, and Respiratory Franchise. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a double major in MGY and BCH in 2013. Kaitlin then moved to Montreal to pursue her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University, before joining Novartis as a MSL in April 2017. As a Medical Advisor, her responsibilities include supporting clinical trial sites in Canada, engaging with key experts to build advocacy and gain insights, working on strategy with Canadian and International colleagues, and preparing for the successful launch of new therapies in Immunodermatology. She is currently based in Toronto.
Medical Advisor – McCann Health Medical Communication
Sridevi is an infectious disease scientist by training. She obtained her PhD studying host genetics of M. tuberculosis at the NY State Department of Health, Albany, NY. Post-graduation, she studied human intestinal organoids and their utility in preclinical vaccine development during her postdoctoral research career at the University of Maryland Baltimore. She relocated to Toronto in December 2020, and to understand the Canadian healthcare landscape better, she enrolled in a graduate diploma course in healthcare management. As part of the program, she gained valuable experience in medical affairs via a co-op opportunity in Medical Affairs at Sanofi Pasteur, Canada. She recently accepted a position as an Associate Medical Writer at McCann Health Medical Communications where she works to support the medical communication needs of pharmaceutical clients.
MSL – Jazz Pharmaceuticals
Shelby Reid works as a Medical Science Liaison with Jazz Pharmaceuticals. Prior to starting with Jazz, Shelby completed her PhD in medical science at the University of Toronto and a MSc in pharmaceutical science at the University of Saskatchewan.
