Meanwhile, quantum reigns supreme. Scientists at Google reveal a quantum computer, Sycamore, which can calculate within 3.5 minutes a problem that would take normal computers 10,000 years. The Sycamore chip is made up of 54 qubits, or ‘quantum bits’, which can exist in multiple states (classical bits are ‘0’ or ‘1’) and thus may herald a new age of supercomputers.
And finally, another bit of good news: the Ebola outbreak in Africa finally slows down after affecting more than 2,000 people earlier this year.
