Dr. Anastassia Pogoutse

Our first Coffee Break Spotlight featured Dr. Anastassia Pogoutse, Strategic Research Development Officer at the University of Toronto Mississauga and previous leader of the LSCDS writing team! Dr. Pogoutse explained what Strategic Research Development actually entails (hint: a lot of writing) and how her graduate and early career experiences led her to this role.

Anastassia recalls how she seized every writing opportunity during graduate school to grow her portfolio, which helped land her first freelance writing gigs. Her advice to her graduate student self - start career exploration and professional development earlier.

Anastassia Pogoutse is a Strategic Research Development Officer at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Office of the Vice-Principal, Research. She focuses on the development of research programs in the sciences. This includes providing writing and editing support for grant proposals, analyzing research funding data, and leading information sessions related to funding opportunities. Ana holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto and previously worked as a freelance scientific writer and editor, and as a research associate and grant writer at Harvard Medical School.
